A Journey across India: The call to Adventure

An easy, practical and in-sequence itinerary planner I have travelled the length and breadth of India, and am truly proud of its rich and varied heritage. I am amazed by the tradition and values, the people, festivals, celebrations and the changing landscape. Have you wondered if it's possible to travel across India completely? Most foreigners arriving in India, land in Delhi and then travel the Golden Triangle route first- which is a good decision incase you have limited time at hand and want to make the most of it. The Golden Triangle- Delhi, Agra and Jaipur includes the much hyped Taj Mahal which invariably is part of a tourist's bucket list. This blog on the other hand- is a sequential strategy and detailed 'been there done that' itinerary plan starting from Mumbai. I am sure as we go through this Journey you will understand India better. My experiences are based from the perspective of a - digital nomad, budget backpacker and from a local standpoint. Picnic & Outings with family and friends in Bangalore

Just as Sanjay Gandhi National park (SGNP) is the lungs of MUMBAI city, so also Cubbon park & Lalbagh Botanical gardens are the lungs of BANGALORE city. Such an oasis of peace, pat in the middle of the city.

Here are 8 combo leisure and fun things to do with family and friends in BANGALORE.

#1 Cubbon park + Vidhana Soudha + Visvesvaraya Museum (1 Day outing)

Cubbon park

Is a serene park spread over a large area with a variety of trees where you can stroll around, and it also has a children's play area. So pack a picnic lunch and head here for some solace. The best part is that it's located around some iconic monuments and a great way to combine these places too.

Vidhan soudha, Bangalore is Karnataka state's legislative assembly

Vidhan soudha

This pristine white Karnataka state legislative building is a picture of grandeur. Surrounding it is also tha Atta Kacheri (High Court buildings).

Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum

Is a great place for young inquisitive minds to explore the realm of science and technology. The museum is spread over 5  floors so keep sufficient time at hand to explore.

#2 An evening at Lalbagh

This botanical garden has a historical reference. It was commissioned by Hyder Ali in 1760 and completed by his son Tipu Sultan much later.  Spread over a large area with a wide variety of trees and plants from all the world, it's a nice place to spend a quiet evening. There is a Glass house within the garden that host the flower show each year.

#3 Government museum + Venkatappa Art Gallery

Is located at a walking distance from Visvesvaraya science center. Government museum has an interesting collection of exhibits and a place where you can get immersed in history, archeology, geology and much more. Within walking distance of Government museum is the Venkatappa Art Gallery for those who love art.

#4 Boating at Ulsoor Lake

Ulsoor or Halasuru lake is located a bit farther from the main city area. It's a great place to hang out and do boating. There are several foot stalls around. Post-pandemic the city authorities have revamped the lake which was facing pollution hazards.

Tipu Sultan's summer palace at Bangalore

#5 Tipu Sultan's summer palace & armory +  KR Market

Tipu Sultan summer palace in Bangalore is different from the one in Srirangapatanam (opp Gumbaz, Tipu's resting place). This simple structure dates back to 1791 and is made completely of teakwood. Here too you can feast your eyes on the beautiful motits and frescoes. At a short walking distance is the Tipu Sultan armory and Bangalore fort.

About 1 km ahead of Tipu's summer palace is KR MARKET, a good place to stop by for wide variety of local stuff like household items, fruits, vegetables and other fresh produce. It is also the city's major flower market. The  interesting part is that it was once a battlefield during the Anglo-Mysore wars.

#6 Bangalore palace + Snow City

Maharaja Chamarajendra Wadiyar's palace here at Bangalore may not  as ostentatious as the Mysore Palace, but it is undoubtedly worth visiting. Built in 1878 on the lines of an English Windsor Castle, the palace has an interesting collection of furniture and artifacts in Gothic - Victorian style. Important cultural events are held in the sprawling grounds in front of the palace.

Close by, less than 3 km is Snow City. As the name suggests this is a winter theme park where kids can experience temperatures below 5° C and winter games.

#7 HAL museum

Take the Old Airport road and head towards HAL. The HAL museum is where every Indian feels a sense of national pride. Among the exhibits are Donier, Jagaur, Pushpak aircrafts and many more.

#8  Wonderla amusement park

Set aside a full day for Wonderla, located almost 35 km on the road going towards Ramnagara. This amusement park also has a waterpark. So carry your swimwear and a change of clothes for a funday with family and kids.
