A Journey across India: The call to Adventure

An easy, practical and in-sequence itinerary planner I have travelled the length and breadth of India, and am truly proud of its rich and varied heritage. I am amazed by the tradition and values, the people, festivals, celebrations and the changing landscape. Have you wondered if it's possible to travel across India completely? Most foreigners arriving in India, land in Delhi and then travel the Golden Triangle route first- which is a good decision incase you have limited time at hand and want to make the most of it. The Golden Triangle- Delhi, Agra and Jaipur includes the much hyped Taj Mahal which invariably is part of a tourist's bucket list. This blog on the other hand- is a sequential strategy and detailed 'been there done that' itinerary plan starting from Mumbai. I am sure as we go through this Journey you will understand India better. My experiences are based from the perspective of a - digital nomad, budget backpacker and from a local standpoint. 5 TOP THINGS TO DO IN BANGALORE WITHOUT LEAVING THE CITY

You had a long monotonous week at work and want a short but sweet break within the city ~ OR~ Maybe you just didn't get enough time and a ticket to Escape the City. That's not a problem!

Here are 5 TOP THINGS YOU CAN DO IN BANGALORE WITHOUT LEAVING THE CITY

#1 Picnic and outings with family and friends in Bangalore

#2 A day of spirituality in Bangalore

Dodda Basavanna Temple (Bull Temple) + Gavi Gangadhareshwara temple + ISKCON ( Day trip, 13 kms / 1 hr)

Bull temple is a 16th century temple right in the heart of the city and much revered by the local populace. The Idol of Nandi here is carved out of a single rock. Gavi Gangadhareshwara on the other hand, is a classic example of a rock-cut cave temple which may be of great interest to those interested in temple architecture.

Almost 10~13 kms north is ISKCON. This temple is often part of a guided day tour Itinerary. There was whispering that the Sri Radha-Krishna idol is made of gold, though I'm not totally sure. Do partake of the prasadam, besides they have a small canteen where they serve pure vegetarian meals and you can buy a variety of snacks. The special pure ghee laddu prasadam bought from their counter is totally mouth-watering.

A life of Indulgence in BANGALORE

INDIRANAGAR and KORAMANGALA are the better parts of Bangalore where you can find streets of branded clothes, shoes and accessory stores. Besides, there are a number of pubs where you can spend the night out.

#3 The pub scene at BANGALORE

Hard Rock Cafe~ Is best known for their handcrafted cocktails like Banana Berry Colada, Espresso Martini and there are many more. Team up with a steak burger or anything else from their menu. There are gigs and music bands on weekends. Location : Ashok Nagar

Tip~ All pubs are open from 12 noon to 1 am on weekends. On weekdays they close around 11 pm.

Toits~ If you are a beer lover then head to Toits. They are a brewery and take pride in serving organic beer without the use of any artificial flavorings. They also serve non-alcoholic cocktails and have a food menu. Location : 100 Feet Road Indiranagar.

Tip~ Consider an average budget of around 1500 rs for 2 people

Other pubs around Indiranagar are Monkey Bar, Xtreme Sports Bar, Pecos Stones and Hangover. Another buzzing nightlife landmark address is  Church Street (around Koramangala). Walk down Church street to get a sense of an incredible Bangalore pub vibe.

#4 Mall crawl and local markets in Bangalore

People need to keep appearances and love to dress well. This is more so in big cities. At the time when Bangalore started out as an IT destination, there was also the emergence of malls and highrise apartments. These have been growing ever since.

Personally, if you ask me~ I don't feel malls are such a bad thing after all. Walking into a mall doesn't cost money, it boosts my ego, burns calories and I often find a good bargain.

UB City Mall~ Is a high-end mall with big brand stores. Clothing , shoes, accessories, cosmetics; you name it, they got it! They also have top spas, hair salons and restaurants having cuisine from across the globe. Location: Ashok Nagar. Phoenix Marketcity at Whitefield also stands out, besides many more.

For street shopping, there is Commercial Street where you can pick up a wide range of clothing, junk jewelry and other knick knacks. Same with Brigade road.

Tip~ bargaining is the usual norm incase of street-shopping

#5 Nature trails in Bangalore

I have found 2 excellent places at the city's outskirts where one can connect with nature in the true sense.

Bannerghatta National park

Bangalore is surrounded by the forests of Western ghaTs which have a rich biodiversity and teeming with wildlife, such as~ Nagarhole NP and the forests of Mudhumalai. That however, is a good 4/ 5 hours drive. In that case, one can always visit Bannerghatta which is a National park and conducts forest safari. It also has a zoo and my favorite is the Butterfly 🦋 park. Location: Bannerghatta Road. They are closed on Tue. Entry ticket~ approx 300 rs.

Turahalli forest

Turahalli forest area is a favorite with city folks from the surrounding areas who come here for their morning walk and to breathe in the fresh forest air. There are some really interesting boulders at Turahalli, I was here once for a course on rappelling which was totally fun. I absolutely love the idea, how within an hour one gets transported from the urban chaos and commotion to a raw and real forest right within the city. Location~ Off Kanakapura road.
