A Journey across India: The call to Adventure

An easy, practical and in-sequence itinerary planner I have travelled the length and breadth of India, and am truly proud of its rich and varied heritage. I am amazed by the tradition and values, the people, festivals, celebrations and the changing landscape. Have you wondered if it's possible to travel across India completely? Most foreigners arriving in India, land in Delhi and then travel the Golden Triangle route first- which is a good decision incase you have limited time at hand and want to make the most of it. The Golden Triangle- Delhi, Agra and Jaipur includes the much hyped Taj Mahal which invariably is part of a tourist's bucket list. This blog on the other hand- is a sequential strategy and detailed 'been there done that' itinerary plan starting from Mumbai. I am sure as we go through this Journey you will understand India better. My experiences are based from the perspective of a - digital nomad, budget backpacker and from a local standpoint. Things to do in DIMAPUR | Work remotely in Nagaland

Dimapur is the only plains tract, in the otherwise hilly state of Nagaland, and is well-connected by air & rail from major cities like Delhi, Kolkata & Guwahati.

Work Live and Stay in Dimapur ?

As a tourist, Dimapur is ideal for a 1 or 2 days stopover, when you plan on visiting other places in Nagaland.

In case you wish to work remotely, Dimapur is ideal with overall decent internet connection.

The climate is quite warm during Summers (similar to other parts of India). Winters are mild. All basic necessities are available. Hostels for students (girls & boys) are available, but no harm in asking if they can accommodate. Due to the covid situation, I stayed at one women's hostel for almost 6 months. I paid 6k rs monthly rent.

Tip:  Nagaland is a dry state. Non-alcoholic rice wine and other wines are available at regular stores.

What should someone know who's considering moving to Dimapur?

After listening to stories about the diverse, indigenous tribes of Nagaland, as well it being a hotspot for insurgencies over a long period of time; I was absolutely terrified, excited and curious all at once, to find out more.

I had a successful 3 months of Work and Stay/ Staycation in Shillong, Meghalaya. before coming to Nagaland in March 2021.

Here are a few pointers, you need to consider before moving to Dimapur city :

1) Is it worth ?

Fortunately, Dimapur is also the only place in Nagaland that you can enter and stay without an ILP (Inner Line Permit). It's a town that closely borders Assam, and is the gateway if you want to visit other places in Nagaland.

So definitely, if you looking forward to explore Nagaland and upper Assam, you could well consider a 'Stay and Work' option / Staycation. Internet speed is average, and you can work just as well as you would at home, or anywhere else in India.

2) How is Dimapur city?

Dimapur is a simple, no fuss town unlike Guwahati (which is more glitzy and modern).  Although there are plenty of constructions going on, these are basically just houses being built. It's also common to find a large section of the population are Biharis who work and live here in harmony.

There seemed fewer cafes to hang out unlike other places.

Commuting is easy; with share auto/ auto and local buses easily available.

3) Is Dimapur safe for travelers?

The first time in my life, I saw military movement; it was thrilling and scary, and more than once I have seen insurgents with guns. So all that passed peacefully, thank God! People otherwise are 'simple'. Since the past few months here, I have found no reason to complaint. I'm not sure about the political scenario.

4- Attend a Sunday service

The Ao Baptist church in Dimapur is the second biggest church in Nagaland. It's modern, impressive, and can accommodate about 6000 people at a time. Service timings are  on Sundays 9.30 am. just incase you want to experience a spiritual ambience.

5- Hiking in Dimapur

A nice, early morning offbeat hike is a great way to Get some Outdoors and get familiar with the environs of this region

3 House Trek is a short 5 kms uphill and super super easy trail. The name 3 house refers to 3 houses that trekkers pass along on this trail. Consider doing this trek early morning, when the sun is not overhead as yet. Dimapur can be quite warm in summer. No charge.

Trek start point : Chumukedima village
Getting there : Chumukedima is located along the 4-lane NH 29, I.e. Dimapur - Kohima road. You can easily get share auto from Dimapur main town area to CHUMO. Ask your driver to drop you at 1st Gate. Chumukedima. auto charges apprx Rs.50/ pp.

The trail leads all the way up to a cross, but frankly most people just turn back midway as the cross is just too far. The trek gives you a bird's eye view of the Karbi Anglong region in Assam.

Higher up the trail are bamboo
thickets which makes it photo-worthy and gives you a sense of peace.
