A Journey across India: The call to Adventure

An easy, practical and in-sequence itinerary planner I have travelled the length and breadth of India, and am truly proud of its rich and varied heritage. I am amazed by the tradition and values, the people, festivals, celebrations and the changing landscape. Have you wondered if it's possible to travel across India completely? Most foreigners arriving in India, land in Delhi and then travel the Golden Triangle route first- which is a good decision incase you have limited time at hand and want to make the most of it. The Golden Triangle- Delhi, Agra and Jaipur includes the much hyped Taj Mahal which invariably is part of a tourist's bucket list. This blog on the other hand- is a sequential strategy and detailed 'been there done that' itinerary plan starting from Mumbai. I am sure as we go through this Journey you will understand India better. My experiences are based from the perspective of a - digital nomad, budget backpacker and from a local standpoint. Shillong trip Jan 2021

TIP- This blog can be translated in multiple languages. Please scroll to the bottom for Google translate option

Even in your darkest days; just thinking about the good days makes you feel better. I visited Meghalaya, during covid-19 days and as expected there were many restrictions but I'm sure things are better now.

Based on my experience a 10 day tour is do-able & can be split into:

SHILLONG 4 DAYS /

CHERRAPUNJI 4 DAYS

DAWKI 2 DAYS.

It's unhurried and exciting; while covering the most popular places in Meghalaya.

You can reach Shillong by
1) share cab/ sumo from Paltan bazar (busstand), Guwahati - Rs.350 - 500 pp are comfortable.
2) private vehicle apprx Rs.1700/ is a great option if you are traveling as a group.
3) Shillong is just a 3 hr drive and the road is excellent, so getting on a bus is the cheapest way to get there.

Which is the best time to visit Shillong?

Easily, the best time to visit Shillong is Nov-Dec during the Cherry Blossom festival.

Aug to Sept is when the waterfalls are in full spate.

Nohkalikai falls, Cherrapunji - Meghalaya

My idea of Cherrapunji in Meghalaya as the wettest place in India was quite dissapointing as the waterfalls were dry as bone. Like all other places in India, monsoons from June to Sept-Oct are a great time to witness the waterfalls.

Is Meghalaya safe?

Incase you visit as a tourist or plan on staying longer and work remotely in Meghalaya 👈

What clothes to pack for Meghalaya tour?

Meghalaya is never too warm and humid even in Summers from March to May-June. People are easygoing with what you wear, and there's no reason why you shouldn't wear those shorts and great t-shirts or tops. Basically you can wear anything you love.
Winters are quite chilly so do carry your warm clothing. Only in Dawki the temperature is normal, and never too cold.
