A Journey across India: The call to Adventure

An easy, practical and in-sequence itinerary planner I have travelled the length and breadth of India, and am truly proud of its rich and varied heritage. I am amazed by the tradition and values, the people, festivals, celebrations and the changing landscape. Have you wondered if it's possible to travel across India completely? Most foreigners arriving in India, land in Delhi and then travel the Golden Triangle route first- which is a good decision incase you have limited time at hand and want to make the most of it. The Golden Triangle- Delhi, Agra and Jaipur includes the much hyped Taj Mahal which invariably is part of a tourist's bucket list. This blog on the other hand- is a sequential strategy and detailed 'been there done that' itinerary plan starting from Mumbai. I am sure as we go through this Journey you will understand India better. My experiences are based from the perspective of a - digital nomad, budget backpacker and from a local standpoint. Neura~ home to the first goan Governor of Portuguese Goa

Neura is a quaint village roundabout Karmali railway station, ILHAS GOA. It is situated on the road from Pilar to Old Goa off NH-17 highway. It is divided into Neura-O-Pequeno (small Neura) and Neura-O-Grande (big Neura), and is bordered by Mandur, Agacaim and Piilar villages.

Driving down this village, one gets the impression of a quiet goan country-side dotted with some exquisite Goan-Portuguese houses.

Prof. Dr. Bernardo Peres da Silva (1775 to 1844)

From a historical viewpoint, Neura is home to Bernardo Peres da Silva (1775 to 1844) - the one and only native goan who was appointed as Governor of Portuguese Goa in 1835.

Not only that, he was also the 1st elected representative of the Portuguese Parliament  Prof. Dr. Bernardo Peres da Silva was also a medical practitioner known for his compassion to local goans, much to the ire of then Viceroy the Count of Rio Pardo.

Neura's present political affinity~

Neura is represented by Viresh Borkar who is the present MLA of the Revolutionary Goans (RG) party (candidate) for St Andre.

Poor public conveyance

Despite the fact that the 11km road from Pilar to Old Goa passes by Karmali railway station; public transport here is poor even to this day. Presently there are limited buses plying on this route making it difficult for villagers and passengers alike to commute.

St. John de Evangelist church, Neura

When you're driving through, do stop by the St. John de Evangelist church. This is one of those churches built during the early Portuguese days (1541). It was later rebuilt in 1624.

Set in serene surroundings, the church looks like it could do with a fresh coat of paint, but nevertheless hauntingly beautiful with its own character.
